Careem is a Dubai-based super app founded in 2012, offering services like ride-hailing, food and grocery delivery, bicycle rentals, and digital payments across more than 70 cities in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia.

Initially focused on corporate car bookings, it quickly evolved into a leading mobility and lifestyle platform in the region. In 2019, Uber acquired Careem, while in 2023, a majority stake in its super app operations was taken by e&, a UAE-based tech investor.

Careem plays a crucial role in digital innovation and sustainability by introducing services like electric vehicle rides and bicycle sharing, aligning with the region’s environmental goals. It has also created extensive income opportunities for captains (drivers) and merchants.

In mid-2025, Careem announced the suspension of its ride-hailing operations in Pakistan due to operational challenges. However, it continues to operate its tech and app services in the country, employing hundreds and focusing on other verticals.
